The first hurricane of the season has entered the Central Pacific and is approximately 1,950 miles east of Hilo.
Hurricane Fausto is moving toward the west near 13 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service and Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 185 miles.
Some small fluctuations in intensity are possible on Thursday, and a slow weakening trend is forecast over the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, it is too soon to say when Kaua‘i could feel the hurricane’s impacts.
There is a high surf advisory in place for portions of Kaua‘i, but according to the National Weather Service, that is part of a separate storm low system that developed around New Zealand.
