A paid, hands-on pathway is providing real-world experience and preparing aspiring young professionals for future careers in law enforcement.
The Kauaʻi Police Department is expanding opportunities for those interested in public service with the launch of its new cadet program that aims to give young adults firsthand knowledge of the many roles and responsibilities within a police department.
Cadets will get a behind-the-scenes look at Kauaʻi Police Department operations through hands-on experience assisting with public services, participating in community events, supporting traffic operations, and learning how officers and department staff work together to serve Kauaʻi.
“The cadet program is an investment in the future of our department and our island,” said Chief Rudy Tai. “We want to provide an opportunity for those who are interested in public safety to gain experience, learn from our team, and discover a career where they can make a lasting impact while serving others.”
Cadets will gain insight into the many paths available within law enforcement while developing communication, problem-solving, and professional skills. The program provides a unique opportunity to explore a career in public safety while making a meaningful contribution to the Kauaʻi community.
The cadet program offers a monthly salary of $5,796 and is open to applicants who are at least 17 years old. Applicants must be 18 years old to begin employment, possess a valid driver’s license, meet Kauaʻi Police Department suitability requirements, and have completed high school or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
