Parents and guardians can come learn how to properly install children’s car seats during free Car Seat Safety Check events happening throughout the month.

According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, most parents and caregivers believe they know how to install car seats correctly, but around half (46%) have installed their child’s car seat incorrectly.

The safety events are an opportunity to have a one-on-one learning experience and become confident that your child’s seat is installed correctly.

The events are co-hosted by the Kaua‘i Police Department with Kaua‘i Planning and Action Alliance and Hawai‘i Department of Transportation. Those who attend will have an opportunity to talk with police officers who will provide information on child passenger safety, according to a news release from Kaua‘i County.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to inspect car seats free of charge. They will also be available to answer questions about car seat installation and demonstrate the correct way to install and use them.

See the schedule of events below:

  • July 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Target parking lot, 4303 Nawiliwili Road in Līhuʻe
