Do you have unwanted household items? You can donate them for reuse during a collection event hosted by Goodwill Industries of Hawaiʻi on Friday, July 10.
The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kauaʻi Resource Center, 3460 Ahukini Road in Līhuʻe.
Accepted donations include clothing, shoes, books, children’s toys, kitchenware and small furniture. Organizers said clothing and textiles do not need to be in wearable condition, and torn or stained items also will be accepted for recycling or reuse.
Items that will not be accepted include electronic waste, chemicals, appliances, medical equipment, food, baby equipment other than clothing, and broken items.
County officials encourage residents to check with local thrift stores before bringing donations to the collection event to determine whether they can accept items directly.
For safety reasons, donors are asked to remain inside their vehicles while staff unload donations. Organizers said the policy is intended to reduce the risk of injury from heavy equipment operating on site and from handling large items.
Businesses and thrift stores interested in arranging donation pickup service can contact the Recycling Office. Additional information about recycling and reuse programs is available through the County of Kauaʻi’s Solid Waste Division.
