Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawai‘i honors law enforcement, community leaders

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawai‘i during its annual Law Enforcement Recognition ceremony honored several dedicated people who went above and beyond in the fight against impaired driving.

A total of 15 members of law enforcement and community leaders received recognition, including officers from all four Hawai‘i counties, a deputy prosecuting attorney and a valued community partner.

Two Kaua‘i Police Department officers also were among those awarded.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Maui Police Department Sgt. Stephen Kelly in honor of his outstanding service and long-standing dedication to traffic safety and impaired driving enforcement.

A new Rookie of the Year award was presented to Honolulu Police Department Officer Kukilakilakuumakuakane Serrao for incredible work so early on in his career.

“The individuals we honored each play a critical role in protecting lives and promoting safety on our roadways,” said Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawai‘i Program Director Makena Young in an announcement about the awards. “Their work makes a real and lasting impact in our communities.”

Young applauded the ongoing partnership between law enforcement, state agencies and community organizations in reducing roadway fatalities.

The awards reflect Mothers Against Drunk Driving Hawai‘i’s commitment to uplifting and supporting those on the frontlines of impaired driving prevention throughout the islands.
