Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green is traveling from June 27 through July 2 to Utah for the annual meeting of Western Governors’ Association, alongside six fellow Western U.S. governors.

Green was picked to lead the association as its next chairperson.

“It is a privilege for Hawaiʻi to lead the Western Governors’ Association during this important moment,” said Green in a state release.

He will formally launch during the meeting his chairperson’s initiative Health Beyond Healthcare, focused on strengthening mental health outcomes throughout the region by addressing clinical care and broader social and environmental factors that influence health and well-being.

“Supporting good mental health is one of the defining challenges of our time and improving outcomes requires us to look beyond the walls of a clinic,” Green said. “Through my [chairperson’s] initiative Health Beyond Healthcare, I look forward to working with governors across the West to build healthier, stronger communities.”

He will then assume leadership of the association — which represents Western U.S. states and territories — at the end of the annual meeting.

Acting Hawaiʻi Lt. Gov. Keith Regan will serve as acting governor while the governor is out of the state.
