Surfrider again invites everyone to volunteer for July 5 beach cleanup events near them
Surfrider Foundation — including Surfrider Kaua‘i — is a witness on July 5 every year to the aftermath and costs of Fourth of July celebrations on beaches.
Fireworks debris. Plastic cups. Broken chairs. Food wrappers. Single-use everything.
It all gets buried in the sand or washes into the ocean.

Surfrider volunteers for more than 20 years showed up the morning after the rockets’ red glare and bombs bursting in air to clean it up — it’s the organization’s biggest volunteer moment of the year.
And the entire community is once again invited to be a part of the effort.
“This year, we need you,” said Surfrider Kaua‘i in an announcement about the 2026 cleanup. “Find a cleanup near you, sign up and bring your crew. One hour can make a massive difference.”

“The beach doesn’t clean itself,” the nonprofit said. “But when 2,000-plus people show up with gloves and positive attitudes, it’s amazing what we can do in a single morning. See you on the sand!”
New to beach cleanups? No worries. Just show up
These events are beginner and family friendly, as well as a great way to meet people who care about the coast.
