Heavy rain prompts flood advisory for Kauaʻi, impacting roads and streams
A flood advisory is now in effect for Kauaʻi through 7:30 p.m. Thursday, as heavy rainfall continues to cause minor flooding concerns across parts of the island, according to emergency management officials.
Emergency management personnel reported heavy rainfall leading to ponding along portions of Kūhiō Highway near Hāʻena.
Rainfall rates were estimated at 1 to 2 inches per hour, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas on the North Shore. Forecasters said minor flooding could affect roads, streams, and drainage areas as showers move through the region.
Officials urged residents and visitors to avoid streams, drainage ditches, and flood-prone areas during periods of heavy rain. Motorists were advised to use caution on roadways.
Forecasters stated that the advisory might be extended past 7:30 p.m. if flooding continues or more heavy rain occurs.
