Editor’s note: This story was updated at 11:16 a.m. on June 15.
‘Anini Road in Kīlauea is closed near its intersection with Kalihiwai Road due to a downed tree blocking the roadway.
The tree is leaning on nearby power lines, and vehicles are currently unable to pass through the area, according to a news release from Kaua‘i County. Kauaʻi Island Utility Cooperative is responding to clear the lines before the tree can be safely removed and the road reopened.
A power outage was reported in the area as a result of the downed tree, but it has since been restored.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area, use alternate routes, and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Drivers should exercise caution and follow any posted traffic control in the vicinity.
An update will be provided once the road reopens.
