The Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station is now accepting loose mixed waste.

Loose mixed waste items are limited to 3 feet in any dimension. Bulky Items, such as mattresses and furniture larger than 3 feet, are only accepted at the Līhu’e Refuse Transfer Station or the Kekaha Landfill, according to a news release from Kaua‘i County.

Green waste collection will remain at the designated area at the bottom of Kahi Road until the remaining improvements are completed.

The $14 million renovation project, which began in November 2024, ensures the Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station meets all State of Hawai‘i Department of Health requirements and complies with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. Renovations included the installation of modern stormwater and leachate management systems and the construction of covered drop‑off areas for green waste, refuse, white goods, and scrap metal.
