Injured California visitor rescued from Canyon Trail in Kōkeʻe State Park

Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 56-year-old female visitor from California who was injured Thursday during on Canyon Trail in Kōke‘e State Park.

First responders from the Waimea Fire Station and Rescue 3 got the call at about 12:40 p.m. They discovered the injured hiker about a half mile into the trail suffering from an apparent ankle injury.

Firefighters administered initial first aid on scene and prepared the hiker for transport to the trail head in a stokes litter by Quick Response Vehicle.

At the trail head, Waimea Fire Station personnel transported the hiker to American Medical Response personnel for further medical care, who then transported the hiker to a nearby hospital.
