A 30-year-old visitor from Oklahoma died Wednesday after being rescued from waters off Moloa’a Beach, according to authorities.
First responders were dispatched to the beach at about 1:45 p.m. on May 13 following reports of a swimmer in distress. Witnesses pulled the man from the water and began CPR before emergency crews arrived.
Once on the scene, medics took command and continued lifesaving efforts before transporting the man to the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa’a, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities said an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death and added that foul play is not suspected.
The Kaua‘i Police Department offered condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
Officials also remind the public that ocean conditions can change quickly and encourage beachgoers to use caution when entering the water.
