The National Weather Service in Honolulu has cancelled a flood advisory for Kauaʻi, but the flood watch is still in affect until 6 p.m. Friday.
The forecast calls for periods of unstable weather on Friday as an unusually strong upper low moves over the island. The weather system is expected to bring unsettled air, brief heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms through Friday night.
The unstable conditions are considered uncommon for this time of the year.
While widespread flash flooding is not anticipated, weather officials said some heavier downpours could lead to ponding on roadways and flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Small hail is also possible in isolated locations during stronger showers.
The unsettled weather is expected to continue through early Saturday morning. Motorists are advised to use caution and stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
