Kaua‘i Police Department apprehended a fugitive on Wednesday, May 6, who was wanted in connection with several ongoing criminal investigations.
Kamron Cortez, 31, of Wailua, was taken into custody after attempting to run from police.

A few days before Cortez was reported as wanted by police on May 4, the Kaua‘i County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed a felony information charging document on April 30 in the 5th Circuit Court, charging the 31-year-old with first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
According to court documents, the charge stemmed from an incident on April 21, where Cortez allegedly took control of a dirt bike without the consent of the owner. A $20,000 warrant was issued for his arrest.
Cortez was already facing similar charges in a separate case in the 5th Circuit Court, where he pleaded not guilty, on March 16, to unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, both class C felonies.
A jury trial is scheduled for May 26 in that case.
