Kaua’i firefighters extinguished a structure fire early Sunday on Ola Road in Waimea.
No injuries were reported.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 12:40 a.m. and arrived within minutes to find a one-story abandoned building engulfed in flames. According to their report, the fire appeared to have started beneath the structure.
Firefighters with the Waimea and Hanapēpē fire stations, along with the on-duty battalion chief, responded and brought the flames under control.
Investigators with the department’s Fire Prevention Bureau assumed control of the scene and are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
Firefighters cleared the area shortly before 2 a.m. Damage to the building and its contents is estimated at $50,000.
