Update at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2026: Kaua‘i County reports that National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu say showers and isolated thunderstorms will spread over the western half of the state tonight and become heavy over central portions of the state Sunday into Sunday night.
More flash flooding is possible. The heaviest rain is anticipated over O‘ahu and Moloka‘i, and possibly Kaua‘i.
Additional road closure information
- Pe’e Road in Poʻipū was reopened for through traffic.
- The public is advised that heavy ponding could persist in some areas. Kaua‘i County Department of Public Works Roads Division has flooded roads posted in areas with heavy ponding to alert the public.
Story originally posted at 11:34 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026: A flood watch will remain in effect for the entire state — including Kaua‘i County — through 6 p.m. Monday, April 13, as flash flooding from excessive rainfall remains possible.
Significant flooding could occur on Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau because of overflowing streams and drainages. Roads in several areas could be closed, along with property damage in urban or low-lying spots because of storm runoff.
Landslides also are possible in areas with steep terrain.
National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu say a disturbance approaching from the northwest is expected to renew deep tropical moisture across all Hawaiian Islands beginning late tonight.
Given saturated soils and elevated stream levels following recent heavy rainfall, flooding could redevelop quickly.
The public is advised to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
Road closures
Kauaʻi Branch of Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife reported shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, there are multiple closures along Kōkeʻe Contour Road because of erosion caused by heavy rains from severe weather.
Sections of the road between Haʻeleʻele Ridge Road (Trail 3) and Polihale Ridge Road (Trail 4), as well as between Polihale Ridge Road (Trail 4) and Kaʻaweiki Ridge Road (Trail 5), were closed until further notice.
