High wind watch issued for northern area of Kaua‘i starting Thursday

A high wind watch is in effect from 6 a.m. on Thursday through Friday until 6 a.m. for Kaua‘i mountains, especially areas north of the steep terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, south winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph are possible. These winds could blow down trees and power lines.

Winds of this strength could also cause widespread power outages.

The public is advised to take precautions now to protect property by tying down loose objects or moving them to a sheltered location.
