Visitor suffers apparent shoulder injury following fall on Kaua‘i trail

A man visiting from California was rescued off the Kalalau Trail after suffering an injury from a fall, according to a Kaua‘i County news release Sunday.

Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the incident on Saturday shortly before 4 p.m. When first responders arrived on scene at the Hanakoa landing zone, they discovered the 51-year-old with an apparent shoulder injury.

Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene and loaded him into the helicopter, where he was taken to Princeville Airport.

Upon landing at the Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for assessment. American Medical Response personnel then transferred the hiker to a local hospital.

The scene was cleared shortly after 4:50 p.m.
