The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is urging the public to remain vigilant as the National Weather Service is forecasting that another Kona low system may affect Kaua‘i through the weekend.
Residents and visitors are advised to monitor weather conditions, local media, and official government channels.
County crews and personnel are on standby should a need arise due to severe weather.
Weather Forecast
A flood watch for the island of Kaua‘i will be in effect from 6 p.m. on March 19 through 6 p.m. on March 22. The watch may be extended, canceled, or modified as conditions change.
A flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding. While flooding is not certain, it is possible.
According to the the National Weather Service, unsettled and potentially hazardous weather conditions are expected to persist through the weekend as a kona low moves closer to the island. Periods of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms may develop, with an elevated risk of flash flooding, especially as saturated ground conditions worsen.
Some storms could become strong, bringing localized damaging wind gusts and intense rainfall. By Saturday, strengthening south to southwest Kona winds are forecast to produce gusts of 30 to 45 mph, particularly along north- and east-facing slopes, which may lead to downed trees and possible power outages.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve beginning Monday, with a transition to a more typical, breezy trade wind pattern that will still bring occasional showers through next week.

All county roadways are open.
With the potential for flooding, flood-prone roads and other low-lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams.

During severe weather, emergency rescues may not be possible. Do not cross swollen rivers or streams; always check with a lifeguard at any lifeguard station before entering the ocean. Know before you go.
