Update 7:48 a.m. on March 18: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the high surf advisory for north-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Original post: The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory as a north-northwest swell is expected to create large surf for north-facing shores of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau.

Large breaking waves reaching 12 to 16 feet and strong currents make swimming dangerous. The public is urged to heed all advice from ocean safety officials.
