Illustrators to showcase art of vibrant flora found in the National Tropical Botanical Garden

Artists have come together to illustrate the flora of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in the annual Florilegium Art Show.

A florilegium (Latin for “gathering flowers”) is a collection of illustrations that vividly document plants from a particular region or botanical garden, which is fitting for the name of the National Tropical Botanical Garden’s Florilegium Society.

The Florilegium Society is a group of botanical illustrators and artists, gathered by instructor Wendy Hollender, that come together every year to create art from the garden’s flora for an annual exhibit.

The 2026 exhibit will run from March 13 through May 2 at the Lāwaʻi Gardens Visitor Center in Kōloa. The show is free and open to the public during regular visitor center hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The opening reception is set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 13. The free event gives the public a chance to mingle with the artists and be among the first to view this year’s exhibition. Light refreshments will be served and a cash bar will be available.
