Structure fire on Kahuna Road in Kapaʻa displaces 2 people and a pet

On Thursday morning, the Kauaʻi Fire Department extinguished a structure fire on Kahuna Road in Kapaʻa that left two people and their pet without a home.

No injuries were reported, the fire department said in a news release.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants, but the occupants declined help.

Firefighters from the Kapaʻa, Līhuʻe and Kaiākea stations responded to the single-story house fire around 9 a.m. They found the home with the carport fully engulfed in flames and smoke coming from the windows and eaves.

Prior to arriving, fire fighters confirmed that all occupants had safely exited the residence and were accounted for.

Once on scene, firefighters secured a water supply and deployed hose lines to attack the fire. Crews quickly knocked down the flames and extinguished the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Kauaʻi Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau.

The scene was cleared at approximately 9:40 a.m.

Damages to property and belongings are estimated at $500,000, the fire department said.
