A Kapaʻa man was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison after pleading guilty in multiple felony cases, including domestic abuse and assault, according to the Kauaʻi County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

Adrian Arrisgado, 26, was sentenced March 5 after previously pleading guilty to felony abuse of a family or household member, second-degree assault, second-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle and first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Prosecuting Attorney Rebecca Like said Arrisgado has been in custody with the Hawaiʻi Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since March 2025 after being held in lieu of bail in the cases.

Arrisgado previously served a prison term after removing himself from the Kauaʻi Drug Court program in 2020, prosecutors said.

“The defendant was given an early opportunity through drug court to change course, but chose to terminate himself from that program,” as said in a statement.

“After serving prison time, he returned to commit a series of serious offenses, including felony domestic violence by strangulation. This sentence reflects the seriousness of that violence and the need to protect our community.”

The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office noted that domestic violence remains a serious concern on Kauaʻi and encouraged anyone experiencing abuse to seek help.

Anyone in immediate danger should call 911, officials said.

Support is available through the YWCA Kaua’i, which provides confidential services for survivors of domestic violence. Advocates are available 24 hours a day through the crisis hotline at 808-245-6362 and through 24/7 online chat at ywcakauai.org.
