Kauaʻi athletes to compete at 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota

Kaimana McDermott and Unified Sgt. Jonathan Anderson with the Kaua’i Police Department is headed to Minnesota this summer to compete in bowling at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.

They are part of Team Hui O Hawaiʻi, the delegation of Special Olympics Hawaiʻi that will be competing at the games.

The team include athletes, unified partners, coaches and youth leaders from across the state.

The duo can be spotted practicing their bowling skills every Monday and Wednesday at the Kaua’i Bowling Center. Competitors from all 50 states will attend the Minnesota Games, which run June 20–26.

Members of the Hawaiʻi delegation also will compete in basketball and track and field events, showcasing their skills on a national stage. The team includes two Unified Champion Schools Youth Leaders from Campbell High School, who will serve in leadership roles during the competition.

Organizers said the games celebrate inclusion, sportsmanship and community, highlighting the abilities and achievements of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Supporters can contribute to the Hui O Hawaiʻi team by making a donation here. Gifts can be directed to individual athletes, coaches, particular sports, or the entire delegation.
