1:36 p.m. Feb. 5 update: The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health has canceled the notification for Poʻipū Beach Pavilion after retesting results show that enterococci levels no longer exceed the threshold level.

Original post: The Hawai‘i State Department of Health is retesting Poi‘pū Beach Pavilion after high levels of bacteria were detected during a routine beach monitoring.

The department is uncertain about the levels, detected at 150 per 100 mL, as this location historically meets the acceptable beach threshold level. Additionally, officials report there is no known source of fecal contamination.

The Department of Health has collected another sample and is retesting the site. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
