First responders rescue Florida visitor from Kalalau Trail Wednesday

A 64-year-old male Florida visitor was rescued from Kalalau Trail on Wednesday, Feb. 4, with apparent exhaustion and difficulty breathing.

First responders from the Kauaʻi Fire Department Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived at the mile marker 1.5 landing zone and discovered the hiker after 1:55 p.m. Wednesday.

Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene and loaded him into the helicopter, where he was taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to Hanalei fire station personnel and American Medical Response (AMR) for assessment.

AMR personnel took over the scene and continued with advanced medical care. The scene was cleared shortly before 4:10 p.m.
