State: Full overnight closure of Wailuā River Mauka Bridge to continue through March
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies road users that the nightly full closure of the Wailuā River Mauka Bridge on Kῡhiō Highway, between Kuamoʻo Road and Wailuā Marina Road, will continue through March.
Lῑhu‘e-bound, or southbound, traffic will be detoured from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday to a contraflow lane on the adjacent Mayor Bryan Baptiste Bridge, also known as Wailuā Plantation Bridge.

The nightly full closure is necessary for concrete support rehabilitation work and paving on the bridge as part of the Wailuā Bridge Repair Project.
The original scope of the project is expected to be completed in March; however, the state Transportation Department plans to add paving of the highway between North Leho Drive and Kuamo‘o Road.
Should that paving work be added to the project, the estimated completion date could extend to April.
Variable message boards are posted along Kūhiō Highway to alert road users about the closure.
Additional intermittent closures to complete the remaining work tasks will be scheduled Mondays through Fridays.
These closures will be added to the scheduled Kauaʻi lane closures for the week on the Friday of the preceding week.
