Hawai’i Lions host 17th annual eyeglass, hearing aid, and food drive on Kaua’i

The Hawai‘i Lions are hosting their 17th annual statewide “Lions in Sight” Statewide Eyeglass & Hearing Aid Collection plus Food Drive, collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids this month and adding a food drive to help local and global communities in need.
Volunteers from hundreds of Hawai‘i Lions clubs, including the Kaua‘i chapter and youth LEO clubs, will staff collection sites across the Garden Isle on Jan. 24, from 8 a.m. to noon, accepting eyeglasses and sunglasses.
Additionally, this year, the Kaua’i Food Bank, along with the Kaua’i Independent Foodbank, will also be present collecting non-perishable food items, including canned goods, cereal, pasta, rice, and juice.
Donations will be accepted at Long’s Drugs CVS in Kapa‘a, the Kukui Grove Shopping Center in Lihue, and the Big Save at the ʻEleʻele Shopping Center.

The program encourages residents to comb through dresser drawers and closets during spring cleaning and donate any unused eyewear to the Lions Recycle For Sight program. Collected glasses are cleaned, sorted by prescription, and prepared for distribution in developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable or inaccessible, including Afghanistan, Samoa, and the Philippines.
In addition to the eyeglasses, hearing aids will also be collected, cleaned, and tested for local distribution.
According to the World Health Organization, corrective lenses could improve vision for roughly one-fourth of the world’s population.
The Lions Clubs of District 50 will proudly celebrate 100 years of dedicated service in Hawaii in 2026.
