Update: High surf advisory canceled for Kaua‘i, Ni‘ihau
Update, Jan. 19: The National Weather Service canceled the high surf advisory for Kauaʻi.
Original post: A high surf advisory is in effect for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau till Monday at 6 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a moderate to large, long-period northwest swell (310-320 degrees) will bring advisory-level surf to exposed shorelines. Surf will rise rapidly today, peaking this afternoon, and drop below advisory levels tonight.
Surf heights are expected to rise to 14 to 20 feet.
Strong, breaking waves and currents will make swimming dangerous. Beachgoers should exercise caution.
