Sustained winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, are expected.
Officials warned that winds of this strength could damage property by tearing off roof shingles, knocking down tree branches, and blowing away unsecured tents. Driving conditions may also become hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and buses.
Residents and visitors were urged to take precautions, including securing outdoor items and remaining alert for falling tree branches while walking or driving.
Motorists were advised to use extra caution on roadways, especially in exposed areas.
Original Post: The National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory in effect until 6 p.m. today (Jan. 14) for areas over the mountains of Kaua‘i, including north and east sections of the island.
South winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, are expected.
