Colorado visitor rescued off Kaua‘i trail after suffering an apparent hip injury
A Colorado visitor was rescued off a trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Tuesday after suffering an apparent hip injury.
According to a preliminary report from Kaua‘i Fire Department, first responders received a report of the injured 63-year-old shortly after 11:20 a.m. When crews arrived on scene near the second lookout of the Cliff Trail, they discovered the man.
Firefighters administered initial first aid on scene and prepared the hiker for transport. The hiker was extracted using a stokes litter and taken to Porter’s landing zone. Upon landing at Porter’s landing zone, the hiker was transferred to Waimea Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for further medical care, who then transported the hiker to a local hospital for further medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly after 2:15 p.m. Personnel with Waimea Fire Station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
