A traffic detour in the Kekaha area is scheduled through April 2026 due to road work by the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation.

The detour is associated with the state’s roadwork on Waimea Canyon Drive, which will require temporary traffic modifications during active construction, according to a press release from Kaua‘i County. The detour route to Kōke‘e State Park includes ‘Alae Road and Kōke‘e Road in Kekaha, weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Motorists traveling through the area should expect detours and potential delays.

Detour routes will be clearly marked with traffic control signs, and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic flow as needed. Electronic message boards have been installed, and notices have been sent out to area residents and businesses.

Motorists are advised to obey all traffic controls, posted signs, and instructions from flaggers and special duty officers. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution through the construction area, follow all detour signage, and allow extra time for travel.

Access for area residents will be maintained as much as possible during the road work.

For county-related traffic concerns, contact the Department of Public Works Engineering Division at 808-241-4883 or pwengineering@kauai.gov.
