Nightly full closure of Wailuā mauka bridge to begin next week
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies motorists that a nightly full closure of Wailuā River Bridge along Kῡhiō Highway, also known as Highway 56, between Kuamoʻo Road and Wailuā Marina Road, is scheduled to begin next week.

Traffic will be detoured from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Jan. 12 and through Jan. 30 to a contraflow lane on Mayor Bryan Baptiste Bridge, also known as Wailuā Plantation Bridge.
The closures are necessary for the contractor to pour concrete for a structural element of the bridge.
Remaining tasks for the Wailuā River Bridge repair project include 11 concrete pours, spall repairs and paving. The project is expected to be completed in March.
Variable message boards are posted along Kūhiō Highway to alert road users about the upcoming nighttime closures.
Additional intermittent closures to complete the remaining work tasks will be scheduled Mondays through Fridays.
Those closures will be added to the scheduled Kauaʻi lane closures for the week on Friday of the preceding week.
