WATCH: U.S. Coast Guard medevacs cruise ship passenger from 92 miles offshore of Kaua‘i
U.S. Coast Guard personnel on Tuesday (Dec. 23) medevaced an ailing cruise ship passenger from 92 miles offshore of Kaua‘i.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point on O‘ahu hoisted the 61-year-old woman, who was experiencing septic shock, and brought her safely to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.
Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a phone call shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 21) from the master of the Pacific World, a Japan-based cruise ship, requesting a medevac for a passenger aboard the 857-foot vessel, which at the time was 886 miles west of O‘ahu.
Watchstanders established regular communications with the vessel’s crew — after conferring with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac — to monitor the patient’s status as the Pacific World proceeded toward O‘ahu.
The woman was reportedly in stable condition.
