Hiker airlifted from Kaua‘i beach after suffering apparent leg injury
A hiker was rescued from Hanakāpīʻai Beach after suffering a reported leg injury from a fall.
According to Kaua‘i Fire Department, crews received a report at approximately 1:05 p.m. on Monday of the 66-year-old female visitor, who was injured near the Hanakāpīʻai stream crossing. When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered the hiker had suffered a leg injury after a fall and was unable to hike out.

Because of the remote terrain and the nature of the injury, Air 1 conducted a helicopter rescue operation. The patient was airlifted from the Hanakāpīʻai landing zone to Princeville Airport, where care was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel for ground transport to a medical facility.
The scene was cleared by approximately 3:10 p.m.
Kaua‘i Fire Department reminds residents and visitors that trails along the Nā Pali Coast can be hazardous, especially during wet conditions. Hikers are urged to check weather and stream conditions, wear appropriate footwear, and turn back if conditions become unsafe.
