Strong thunderstorm hitting Kaua‘i this morning

A strong thunderstorm will be hitting Kaua‘i this morning till 9 a.m.

At 8:21 a.m., Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Kekaha, or 21 miles west of Līhu‘e, moving east at 15 mph. Torrential rain is occurring as well.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected.

Locations impacted include Waimea Canyon State Park, Mana, Kaumakani, Hanapēpē, Barking Sands, Kekaha, Waimea, Pakala Village, Kalāheo, ‘Ele‘ele, Alakai Swamp Trails, Lawai, and Kōke‘e State Park.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

This storm may intensify. The public is advised to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
