The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a special marine warning for the Kaua‘i Channel, as well as the island’s windward waters until 4 p.m.

At 1:52 p.m., severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts were located along a line extending from FAD Buoy BB to 7 nm east of FAD Buoy WK, moving northeast at 25 knots, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu this afternoon.

Waterspouts and wind gusts of 34 knots or greater are anticipated.

“Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas,” according to the National Weather Service. “Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.”
