Kaua‘i police respond to suspected handgun at elementary school, student detained
An ‘Ele‘ele Elementary student was detained following a report that they were in possession of a handgun.
According to Kaua‘i County, Kaua‘i police officers were dispatched to the school at 12:20 p.m. When they arrived on scene, officers immediately located and detained the student without incident.
Further investigation revealed that the item initially reported as a handgun was wrapping paper made to resemble a weapon. Officers conducted an assessment of the campus and confirmed there was no threat to students, staff, or the public.
There is no active threat to the school or the public, and no injuries have been reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
