Utility work, one-lane closures scheduled for Kawaihau Road in Kapaʻa through December
The public is advised that utility work in a portion of Kapaʻa will require one-lane closures throughout the month of December.

Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company Inc., under contract with the Kaua‘i County Department of Water, will perform utility work and excavation along Kawaihau Road — from the intersection of Ka‘apuni Road to Kapahi Road — in Kapaʻa.
The work is part of the Kapaʻa Homesteads Tank Project.
Utility work schedule
- Dates: Dec. 1–31
- Location: Kawaihau Road, from Ka‘apuni Road to Kapahi Road
- Work hours: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays only
Note: All work is weather permitting; schedule is subject to change.
One-lane closures will be necessary for portions of the road while crews work throughout the month.
Traffic advisory
- One-lane closures will be in effect on weekdays only; access to properties will be provided.
- Motorists should obey all posted signs, traffic controls and flaggers.
- Use caution when driving over roadway steel plates.
- Motorists should also expect delays and are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
- Parking will not be allowed in the designated work zones.
The Kapaʻa Homesteads Tank Project will construct two 500,000-gallon storage tanks, along with necessary storm drain improvements. About 1,700 linear feet of 16- and 12-inch water lines plus associated appurtenances will be constructed as part of the project.
“Every effort will be made to complete this project efficiently and with minimal disruption,” said the county Water Department in its project announcement. “We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve the water system in your community.”
