Kῑlauea Roundabout located at intersection of Kūhiō Highway-Kolo Road now open
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation says the Kῑlauea Roundabout at the intersection of Kūhiō Highway and Kolo Road is now operational.
The department opened the roundabout Nov. 14.

Full completion of the project is still anticipated by the end of this year, with remaining work including landscaping, permanent striping and sign installation. Additional work to install traffic counting systems is slated for January 2026.
Construction of the $14.3 million Kῑlauea Roundabout began May 5.
“[Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation] thanks the Kῑlauea community for its patience during the construction and traffic modifications,” said the state Transportation Department in its announcement.
Drivers are reminded to slow down when approaching a roundabout.
They should yield to pedestrians using the crosswalks, ensure it is safe to enter the roundabout, travel in a counterclockwise direction, then signal appropriately before exiting the roundabout.
