Aloha and community spirit was on full display during the first Kaua‘i Pickleball Tournament of Hope.

The 3-day tournament — hosted Nov. 14–16 at Kaua‘i Community College by longtime Child and Family Service supporters Mark and Eddie — brought together players, sponsors and families from around the Garden Isle to raise funds and awareness for the work of Child and Family Service strengthening Kaua‘i families in need.

Child and Family Service was presented a $90,597.20 by Mark and Eddie during a special ceremony Sunday, with funds representing proceeds from tournament registration fees, sponsorships, community contributions and in-kind support that helped make the tournament possible.

Those funds will directly support the Child and Family Service mission on Kaua‘i, including through Hale Ho‘omalu and Nana’s House — Child and Family Service family centers providing safety, counseling and essential resources for local families facing crisis.

“Mark and Eddie’s generosity and leadership have truly inspired our community,” said Child and Family Service President and Chief Executive Officer Amanda Pump in a release about the pickleball tournament. “This event wasn’t just about competition, it was about connection, compassion and commitment to helping families thrive. Their vision has created something that will continue to serve our island for years to come.”

The inaugural tournament featured more than 130 participants competing in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles divisions.

Local businesses and community partners provided sponsorships, prizes and food to support the cause.

The motivation for organizing the tournament stemmed from Mark and Eddie’s personal experiences with Child and Family Service: “We’ve seen firsthand the difference [Child and Family Service] makes in people’s lives. We wanted to give back in a way that brings people together, and pickleball was the perfect way to do it.”

Child and Family Service plans to make the tournament an annual tradition on Kaua‘i, continuing to “rally for families” and ensure every serve counts toward a stronger, healthier island community.
