Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies the public about the planned upcoming full closure of Wailuā River Bridge over Kūhiō Highway, also known as Highway 56, between Kuamoʻo Road and North Leho Drive.

The bridge will be closed from 6 to 10 a.m. Nov. 16.

Līhuʻe/southbound drivers during the closure of the mauka side of the bridge will be detoured to a contraflow lane on Mayor Bryan Baptiste Bridge, also known as Plantation Bridge, which will be coned to have one northbound lane and another southbound.

This closure is necessary for the Wailuā Bridge Repair Project while crews with the contractor pour concrete for one of the diaphragms — the structural element that stabilizes Pier 7 — under the bridge.

State Transportation Department officials expect about 12 remaining mauka bridge closures for diaphragm pours at Pier 4 and Pier 1, spall repair pours and paving.

Remaining bridge closures will be scheduled at night after the end of seabird fallout season.

The repair project is on schedule for completion in March 2026.
