Flags ordered at half-staff in honor of late US Vice President Dick Cheney

Hawai’i Gov. Josh Green ordered the U.S. flag and Hawaiʻi state flag be flown at half-staff at the Hawaiʻi state Capitol and at all state offices, agencies and Hawaiʻi National Guard throughout the islands, effective immediately, to honor the life and legacy of former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney.

The 46th vice president of the United States and Lincoln, Neb., native died Nov. 3 from what the Associated Press reports his family said in a statement was complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. He was 84 years old.

Flags shall fly at half-staff until the former vice president’s day of interment.

“Our nation mourns and acknowledges the passing of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who also served as a U.S. representative, our 17th United States secretary of defense all before becoming our 46th vice president,” said Green in his fag order.

He and his wife Hawai’i First Lady Jaime Green offer their condolences to the Cheney family.

“This is a time to note that his outspoken approach to government, whether we agreed or disagreed with his ideologies, is a critical part of our democracy,” Gov. Green said.
