Grand Hyatt partners with Kaua‘i Humane Society to host Canine Costume Contest
Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa in Kōloa is partnering with Kaua‘i Humane Society to host a hauntingly good time that everyone — including the freaky furballs in attendance — will howl about for weeks.
The resort and Humane Society invite guests and Garden Island residents to dress up their pups and enter them in the Halloween Canine Costume Contest.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Kaua’i Humane Society to bring some Halloween fun to our community while supporting such an important cause,” said Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Director of Marketing and Communications Diann Hartman in an announcement of the costume contest event. “This event is a wonderful way for guests, Kaua‘i residents and their pets to come together, celebrate and help provide care and comfort to animals in need.”
The contest begins at 2:15 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 30) with registration on the front lawn of the Kaua‘i Ballroom.
Participants can compete in multiple categories such as “Cutest Costume,” “Scariest Costume” and “Best Pet and Owner Themed Costume.”
Winners in each category will be determined by a panel of judges, with prizes for dogs — from Natural Pet Hawai‘i — and for people, including a $100 resort gift certificate.
All dogs must be healthy, fully vaccinated, well-mannered and leashed at all times.
The event also serves as a pet food drive and opportunity for those who attend to adopt their next furry family member.
Kaua‘i Humane Society will have several dogs available for adoption at the event and also provide information about how resort guests and island residents can help support the organization and find loving homes for shelter pets.
On- and off-island adoptions are available. More information can be found on the Kaua‘i Humane Society website.
Costume contest participants also are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food for Kaua‘i Humane Society’s pet food bank, which helps community members facing challenging times keep their pets healthy and happy.
Items from the shelter’s Amazon Wishlist are also encouraged, including scratching posts, toys, treats, leashes, industrial-sized fans, kuranda beds and airline approved animal crates.
People who are unable to attend Thursday’s event but want to support the society can make a monetary donation at its website.

The Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i team is hosting an internal pet food drive through Oct. 30 as well, with items to be donated to Kaua‘i Humane Society at the costume contest.
Kaua‘i Humane Society’s mission is to foster respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals and enrich lives by nurturing healthy relationships between pets and people on Kaua‘i and beyond.
