Nonprofits can now apply for Kaua‘i County recycling and waste diversion grant funding

Kaua‘i County Solid Waste Division is accepting grant applications for projects that promote recycling and waste diversion in line with recommendations from the most recent Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan Update.

A total of $40,000 is available through this competitive grant program, which is open to nonprofit organizations.

Examples of eligible projects include efforts to:

  • Divert food waste and recyclables from the landfill.
  • Implement reusable foodware programs in schools.
  • Develop on-island solutions for plastic diversion.
  • Host repair fairs.
  • Organize art or “trashion” shows featuring works made from recycled or repurposed materials.

Other initiatives that directly support recycling and waste diversion can also qualify.

Completed applications must be submitted by 3 p.m. Nov. 14.
