UPDATE: Flood watch issued for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau canceled
Update, Oct. 17, 8:05 a.m,: The flood watch for Kaua’i and Ni’ihau has been canceled.
Officials from the National Weather Service have lifted the flood watch, and it is no longer expected to pose a threat to the islands.
The watch was issued overnight due to excessive rainfall.
Original Post: National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu have issued a flood watch until noon for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau as the potential for flash flooding exists through this morning because of possible excessive rainfall.

An upper level low and low level convergent boundary are producing scattered thunderstorms just northeast of Kaua’i early today.
The system will move over the islands through the morning hours, producing periods of heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding in some areas.
Flood prone roads and other low-lying areas could be closed because of elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas could receive more significant flooding and property damage because of rapid runoff.
Forecasters advise the public to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if flash flood warnings are issued.
