World-renowned astrophysicist to present James Webb Space Telescope discoveries in Kauaʻi
Dr. Alex Filippenko, a world-renowned astrophysicist and professor at University of California Berkeley, will give a free public talk on Saturday about the most recent discoveries made by the James Webb Space Telescope.

The event, which is hosted by the Kauaʻi Educational Association for Science and Astronomy, provides a rare chance to hear directly from one of the most respected voices in modern astronomy.
Filippenko, known for his engaging appearances on the History Channel’s “The Universe,” volunteered to share his expertise with the Kauaʻi community while vacationing on the island.
After the talk, all attendees are invited to a public starwatch. Telescopes, managed by the Kauaʻi Educational Association for Science and Astronomy, will give guests a unique view of the dark sky during fledgling season, a time when outdoor lights are dimmed to safeguard Newell Shearwater birds.
This free event starts at 6 p.m. at the Kauaʻi Community College Performing Arts Center.
