The event, which is hosted by the Kauaʻi Educational Association for Science and Astronomy, provides a rare chance to hear directly from one of the most respected voices in modern astronomy.

Filippenko, known for his engaging appearances on the History Channel’s “The Universe,” volunteered to share his expertise with the Kauaʻi community while vacationing on the island.

After the talk, all attendees are invited to a public starwatch. Telescopes, managed by the Kauaʻi Educational Association for Science and Astronomy, will give guests a unique view of the dark sky during fledgling season, a time when outdoor lights are dimmed to safeguard Newell Shearwater birds.
