Blessing ushers in Kūhiō Highway (Hardy-Oxford) Waterline Project
Kaua‘i County Department of Water, contractor Alpha Inc. and construction manager Bowers + Kubota hosted a blessing Oct. 3 to usher in the Kūhiō Highway (Hardy-Oxford) Waterline Project.

Aimed at replacing aging water main infrastructure to meet current water system standards, including fire flow requirements, the project will be executed in TWO PHASES:
- Phase I: Commencing this month.
- Phase II: Beginning in December.
“As we move forward with this vital project, we remain committed to keeping our community informed while working diligently to minimize any unnecessary disruptions,” said Kaua‘i County Department of Water Manager and Chief Engineer Joe Tait in a county release about the event and project.
The blessing was officiated by kahu Jade Waialeale Battad and was attended by Kaua‘i state Rep. Luke Evslin, Kaua‘i County Board of Water Supply Vice Chairman Tom Shigemoto, Kaua‘i County Board of Water Supply ex-officio member and Kaua‘i County Engineer Troy Tanigawa, Tait and Alpha Inc. Foreman Richard Waalani Jr.
AREAS IMPACTED during the project will include:
- Kūhiō Highway, from Hardy Street to Oxford Street.
- Poinciana Street, from Kūhiō Highway to Jerves Street.
