Kūpuna invited to learn about chronic condition management during workshop series
Kaua‘i County Agency on Elderly Affairs invites seniors to participate in the “Better Choices, Better Health” workshop series, a free 6-week program beginning Oct. 8.

Classes will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday at Hanalei Neighborhood Center, located at 5-5358 Kūhiō Highway, in Hanalei.
Enrollment is first-come, first-served basis and limited to 15 participants.
Participants are encouraged to attend all six sessions to gain the full benefit of the program.
“Better Choices, Better Health” — developed by the Self-Management Resource Center — is designed to support kūpuna in building confidence and skills to manage chronic conditions while maintaining active, fulfilling lives.
The program also emphasizes the importance of self-care and healthy aging.
Workshop topics include:
- Fall prevention and better breathing techniques.
- Appropriate exercise for strength and endurance.
- Healthy eating.
- Proper use of medications.
- Working more effectively with health care providers.
Participants will make weekly action plans, share experiences and support one another in overcoming challenges as they create and carry out their self-management strategies.
