Keālia man in critical condition following single-vehicle crash in Līhuʻe
A 62-year-old man from Keālia is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash Monday night near the intersection of Kūhiō Highway and Kāpule Highway in Līhuʻe.
According to Kaua‘i police, the crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, when the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet truck, traveling eastbound on Kūhiō Highway, veered out of control and struck multiple roadside structures — including a traffic barrier, signal pole, metal gate, and wooden fence.
Investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
He was taken to Wilcox Medical Center in Līhuʻe and later airlifted to Straub Medical Center on O‘ahu for advanced treatment.
Officials say speed and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors. The investigation remains ongoing.
